1st Full Marathon @ SCMS 2010

5 Dec 2010 - the date I had been waiting for this year. Yup, my very first full marathon.

I braved myself to sign up for a full marathon after my 2nd half marathon run. When I started running? Erm... I ran for fun in Mizuno Wave Run Oct 2009. Then my very first half marathon in Feb 2010 Putrajaya Run. From there the list goes on.... Energizer night race for half, SCKLM 2010 half, PBIM half, Newton 25km.

They said, Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCMS) is a good choice for 1st full as the route is flat..okie, so starting with real training only at the last 2 months before the race.

Erm,I did not train real hard, only ran 3 times 30km and there I was in S'pore.

2.45am on 5 Dec 2010, woke up & get ready. By 4am, we already reached Orchard Road & line up for the porta loo. Guess what, the queue was so long and we had just enough time to run to starting line at 5.15am! We started for the sub 6 hours category and guns off at 5.15am.

This is what was written on my back!

1km to 10km - excited! running passing nice buildings & landmarks in S'pore but I can't really remember where I 'd passed. I have poor sense of direction :P

10km - still doing good, crossing at 1st checkpoint at 1:11:00.
21.11km - still ok, no cramp, crossing at 2:32:31.

Between 22km to 28km - the most boring route in East Coast Park! At 28km onwards, can't really focus as calf muscle starting to show sign of cramping. Keep looking for muscle rub from medic team.

30km - the most painful stretch at the construction area, blazing hot sun. Crossing checkpoint at 3:48:56, with the slowest pace! Calf muscle continued cramping on and off.

Between 30km to 37km - really want to die, tired legs, cramping muscles, already starting mixing run with walk breaks. But still feel happy because I have ran this far for the 1st time!

Between 37km to 41km - already starting walking, ran out of energy. Could no longer run. Sore feet, sore muscles, feet starting to get numb...

41km to 42km - getting excited again, people cheering us, photographers all around, still managed to smile and wave at the photographer despite painful legs!

The last 0.195km - Hand in hand with my running buddy, we ran to the finishing line smiling at our friend's camera. I even turned back and jumped (that's where I sprained my ankle at the last 20m, ouch). The moment crossing the finishing is so triumphant!

Finally, I can call myself a full marathoner! Yes I did it, finishing it at a net time of 5:35:59. Not a very good time but happy though. There will be plenty room for improvement!

Post run - ouch....I can't describe by words of the pain. Sore muscles, 2 black toenails, 1 sprained ankle, numb feet...and Salonpas is pretty usable at this time. Not to forget the 2XU compression sock too for recovery. Yeah, we can't avoid staircase as our hostel is located at the 2nd floor!

Nevertheless, we survived! Congrats to all my friends who did their 1st full too.
